Cover for Tidsskriftet, issue 05, 2017, on antibiotic resistance. A bacterial colony as a living painted ground, with a network of connections drawn over it.

The brief

Antibiotic resistance is invisible and slow. The cover had to make it feel alive and spreading, and still sit calmly on a medical journal.

Process

I started with a painting: a colony shape in cyan and green on a dark ground, built up in washes. Then I scanned it and drew a network of orange points and lines across it, like a map of connections spreading through the colony.

The printed cover of issue 05, 2017.
